Yoga is a profound part of the Vedic culture. Yoga practices underlie at the heart of all Hinduism (Sanskrit "Sanatan Dharma") schools. Sanatana Dharma means "the eternal law" - the law of all beings’ evolution.
Advaita is an ancient doctrine that tells us about human nature as divine initially. "Advaita" can be translated as "not two". Soul is not separated from God. God is a reality that permeates everything.
November 13, St. Petersburg hosted roundtable «Practical ways to achieve tolerance in the society», which was timed to International Day of Tolerance. The event was organized by the Scientific and Methodological Council for Religious Society «Knowledge» in St. Petersburg and Leningrad region.
The roundtable was attended by religious scholars, sociologists, political scientists, human rights activists, representatives of different religious organizations and groups. The legal issues of interaction with the state were discussed: relationship between religious organizations and government agencies, as well as the relationship between the various religious movements themselves.
There were lawyers-experts among the main speakers:
- Alexey Gaidukov - Ph.D., Associate Professor, President of the Center for Religious Studies «Etna»;
- Dmitry Dubrovsky - Candidate of Historical Sciences, director of the «Human Rights» program, a senior lecturer in the Department of Liberal Arts and Sciences, St. Petersburg State University, a leading researcher at the Russian Museum of Ethnography;
- Erofeev Konstantin – St. Petersburg practicing lawyer and member of the Guild of Russian Lawyers.
A few reports were given from some religious groups, including the Center for Vedic Culture «Divya Loka». Its representative did with a brief overview of the work on inter-religious dialogue.
Summing up it should be noted that important and acute in today's world issues were raised relating to tolerance and rights in a multicultural society. A. Gaidukov said: «The overall goal is the same: to make this world better!» Hardly could be a better end for the event.
